Yangon (Chindwin): An explosion reportedly takes place in front of the retired Senior General Than Shwe’s house in Kyaukse on September 11.  No damage to property or casualty has been reported.

The explosion video circulated on social media shows that a young man threw the bomb into the property. Later, the People Defense Forces (Kyaukse) claimed responsibility for the explosion.

The residents say the explosion has caused no damage to Than Shwe’s house, which is on an acre of land.

Than Shwe is one of the longest military dictators ruling Myanmar from 1990 to 2011. He retired as Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces and Chairman of State Peace and Development Council in 2011, handed over his position to Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who led a coup d’état on February 1.

The retired Senior General Than Shwe currently lives in a six-story building in Naypyidaw. The 88-year-old ex-military leader and his wife, Daw Kyaing Kyaing, were hospitalized last August for contracting COVID-19.
