As the dawn of new year arrives, Myanmar’s junta faces heavy toll of losses

Yangon: As the military coup nears into its 12-month, Myanmar’s military junta is met with heavy toll on casualties from clashes with ethnic armed groups and People Defense Forces in Karen, the southeast of Myanmar and the northern special region No. 1 of the Kokang area in Shan State.

As a new year heralds in, the war has sounded to be more bloodier and more brutal, with thousands fleeing their towns and villages to escape the brutal torture and killing of Myanmar in Chin, Sagaing, Magway, Karen and Kayah regions during the Christmas and New year holidays.

Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) , an armed wing of Karen National Union (KNU) has seized several weapons and ammunition of Myanmar’s junta army when conducting clearance operation from its clashes with the junta forces in Dooplaya’s district in Karen State, on 01 January 2022.

Myanmar’s junta has launched offensive against the ethnic Karen armed group and its alliance People Defense Force since 15 December 2021 in which dozens of airstrikes using attack helicopters and fighter jets have so far conducted against the civilian resistance groups.

In the northern region of Shan State, the fighting has been raged in the special region No. 1 – the Kokang area between Myanmar’s junta army and Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) – an ethnic armed group based in the Kokang area has seized many weapons of which appears to be of the junta forces from the clashes yesterday, 03 January 2021.

It is believed that the junta soldiers are abandoning their large weapons and run away from the ethnic armed group, however, Chindwin cannot independently verify such report.

Although there are no reports of casualty, Chindwin learns that many clashes in other areas have claimed dozens of the junta soldiers in Chin, Sagaing and Tanintharyi regions.

The northern armed group of Myanmar has been fighting against the military junta following the military’s February 01 coup in 2021.

Chindwin has learned Myanmar’s junta army has faced heavy toll losing so many soldiers, with many believing a few battalions gone in the clashes with MNDAA.
