Australian economic advisor Professor Sean Turnell is jailed to 3 years in prison in Myanmar

29 September 2022

After long waiting to hear the verdict of the junta regime against the Australian economic advisor to State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi since the military seized power on 01 February 2021, the junta regime has handed on Thursday Mr Turnell a three-year jail term in Nay Pyi Taw military court, Myanmar.

After the verdict is made public, Professor Sean Turnell’s wife wrote about the family being heartbroken because of the junta regime sentencing her husband to 3 years jail term in prison today.

The economic advisor to State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi has been kept in Myanmar prison as he was immediately detained by the junta regime on the day of the military coup on 01 February 2021.

Ha Vu, the wife of Mr Turnell, said the junta regime’s handing her husband over three years in jail had devastated her family, including Sean’s 85-year-old father.

Mrs Ha Vu stated that her husband is staunchly devoted to the Southeast Asia nation and has been contributing to the country’s economic development for over the last 20 years.
