Two aides, a driver and personal assistant to Deputy Chief of Northwest Military Command Brig-Gen. Myo Htut Hlaing, have reportedly defected from their base in Mount Rung, according to the Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO).
“Wives of all soldiers and civilian members of military council, including Chairman Ngun San Aung, have been provided with arms,” the defectors reported to CHRO.
The two defectors also revealed low morale, fear and insubordination among the ranks and files, including the refusal to obey direct orders of Deputy Commander by field military commander to reinforce troops during the attack of Lungler military outpost by the Chin resistance fighters, Chinland Defence forces (CDF) and Chin National Army (CNA).
The defection comes amid growing escalation of fighting between the Myanmar junta’s troops and the Chin resistance forces (CDF/CNA).
According to the latest report, more than 2000 soldiers and police have defected to join the country’s Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), a nationwide boycott by civil servants in response to the February’s coup.
