Dozens of political activists, including NLD elect MP arrested in KNU-controlled Lay Kay Kaw area

Yangon – The Parliamentary Member (MP) elect Dr Ko Wai Lin Aung, who is young and well-known public figure in his benevolent work, has been arrested along with other 23 political activists in Myanmar junta raid in KNU-controlled area Lay Kay Kaw, Karen State.

The raid over the entire six ward in Lay Kay Kaw has been done by Light Infantry Battalion – 560, with 4 fronts opening and rounding up the area, arresting at least 23 political activists, including the MP elect Dr Ko Wai Ling Aung.

The raid has started since the morning around 8:00 am today 14 December.

Dr Ko Wai Ling Aung was elected in November 2020 election – contested from National League for Democracy (NLD) in the constituency of Myaungmya Town in Ayeyarwaddy region.

According to Karen Information Centre, the raid inside the controlled area of Karen National Union appears to be the result of negotiation between the high senior level of both sides – military junta and KNU.

Karen National Liberation Army on the ground is ready to make a move against the military junta, however, the situation appears to be complex since the military junta force is allowed to come in the area and raiding the area.

The report has been verified by our source from Yangon, who have a close contact with people related to KNU activities.
