KNU says 399 junta soldiers killed, 313 wounded in 435 battles in just a month in one of its controlled districts; Myanmar

Yangon – Karen National Union has killed 399 junta soldiers and wounded 313 in the ongoing battles between Karen National Union and Myanmar military junta in Karen State, the KNU’s Kawtholei district administration released the war report today, 08 February 2022. 

The casualty numbers are reported from what only happened in the KNU’s controlled Kawtholei district for the first month of this year – 2022. 

The total battles between Karen National Union (KNU) and Myanmar military junta and its affiliate – Border Guard Force (BGF) last month in Kawtholei district of Karen State are reported at 435. 

For the ethnic Karen armed organization, Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and Karen National Defense Organization (KNDO) join hands in hand in fighting the military junta forces and Border Guard Force (BGF) – which was a former splinter group from Karen National Union (KNU). 

Both sides have casualties, with the junta army and BGF losing 399 soldiers and wounding 313 in total, while KNLA and KNDO lost 7 soldiers and 24 wounded.   

Myanmar military junta has conducted airstrike, bombing villages and undergoing projects in the areas of KNU’s Mutraw and Doopalaya districts. 

The ongoing bombing and airstrike have triggered massive destruction of livelihoods and a civilian exodus from the villages in the district with thousands being displaced. 

The report adds the continued war in Karen State, mostly in the five areas of KNU’s controlled districts – Thaton, Nyaunglebin, Tenasserim/Mergui-Tavoy, Mutraw and Dooplaya has displaced more than 70,000, seeking shelters in the deep jungles.
