Melbourne (Chindwin) : With the Southeast nation being plunged into a civil war facing widespread unconventional war across the country in which the military regime faces high casualty for the last few days, Myanmar’s coup regime is invited to attend the ASEAN – Australia – Defence Minister’s Informal Meeting on 11 November.
It is learned that Lieutenant General Mya Tun Oo attended the meeting.
The Australian Defence Minister Peter Dutton had attended the ASEAN – Australia Defence Minister’s Informal Meeting Defence Ministerial meeting, which was held virtually.
After the meeting, the Australian Defence Minister Peter Dutton tweeted reaffirming the Australian commitment to work together to support an open, inclusive and resilient region of sovereign states.
Against the backdrop, Vice Chief of the Australian Defence Force, David Johnston had a telephone call with Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar military, Soe Win on 24 Feb.
For a second time, the Vice Chief of the Australian Defence Force had another telephone call with Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar – Soe Win on 16 June, in which the Vice Chief had requested his counterpart to keep the high priority of the release of Professor Sean Turnell, who was an economic advisor to Aung San Suu Gyi
Australia does not impose any targeted sanction against the military regime as the government says it is not in line with the national interest, citing that Australia had imposed targeted sanction against the military regime in 2018.
