Yangon (Chindwin) : Myanmar’s military junta has stopped model and actress Thandar Hlaing from leaving the country at the last minute at Yangon International Airport. The model and her family are reportedly said to be planning to travel to Bangkok.
Miss Thandar Hlaing and some of her family members were stopped yesterday from on-boarding the plane of Myanmar National Airlines (MNA), BBC Burmese reported.
Later, it was learned that she was arrested and taken to Yekyiann interrogation camp.
In April, the actress was accused of an act of defamation of the State under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code.
Likewise, more than 120 celebrities have been arrested, and more than 100 remain in hiding after joining the anti-junta coup movement. The stars range from directors, film actors, artists, and models who threw their unwavering support of the civil disobedience movement (CDM).
Among dozens, the high-profile celebrities currently detained in notorious Innsein prison are Lu Min, Ye Taik, Piang Takhon, Win Min Than, Pyae Ti Oo and his wife Eaindra Kyaw Zin. All of them are charged under the 505 (a) Penal Code, accusing of an act of defamation of the State.
One of the well-known actors – Min Maw Kun has joined People Defense Force (PDF) accompanied by his family members in one of the liberated area under controlled by the ethnic armed group since he was charged under the same Penal Code by the junta.
Singer Novem Htoo said during an interview in May that not only the artists but the whole country is in prison, adding that people are now in a situation where they live in fear, wondering when they might be arrested, killed or have their belongings looted.
