Yangon (Chindwin): The Southeast Asia nation has been rocked by a series of arrests against the Ministers of Yangon Regional Administrative Government appointed by the junta regime yesterday following the brutal military coup on 01 February 2021.
Amidst Myanmar’s junta regime facing losses across the country at the frontline battles against the civilian resistance forces, the coup leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing has turned back against his own henchmen by arresting the two Ministers appointed by his regime for Yangon regional government and chairman of the military crony company – Ze Kabar.
The news has shocked the strife-torn nation.
However, the saga clearly emboldens the resistance forces in a positive way as the opposition groups view that the junta leader running amok against his own henchmen will create a further division and problems among the Tatmadaw, ultimately leading to the downfall of the junta regime.
Bo Htay, a Mayor of the Yangon region and Aung Than Oo, Commerce Minister of Yangon Division Government, were reportedly arrested by the junta regime yesterday, 23 March 2022.
U Khin Shwe, chairman of Ze Kabar, known as the military crony company, is said to be taken away from his office yesterday by the junta’s security forces along with Bo Htay and Aung Than Oo on the same day.
Aung Than Oo is a member of the military-backed USDP (Union Solidarity and Development Party) party and contested the 2020 November election from Yangon regional division.
U Bo Htay served as the Rangoon Division Government’s Development Department head and was later appointed mayor of Yangoon after the military coup.
There is speculation over the arrest of Yangon’s Mayor relating to the permit given for land use in the Yangon region, while Aung Than Oo’s arrest can be linked to the raid of the house of chairman of Ze Kabar company – Khin Shwe and his son – U Ze Ti Hah according to the initial reports.
The junta regime’s spokesperson General Zaw Min Tun has confirmed the two arrests of junta appointment mayor of Yangon region and Minister for Commerce of Yangon Division Government, as well as the military crony company’s chairman during an interview with BBC Burmese on the accounts of which many speculated online as to the land use and distribution in Yangon region. This has reaffirmed the online rumours that come out of the leak to the media.
With Mr Zaw Min Tun confirming the arrests for the three, he vehemently denies the arrest of the son of former General Thura Shwe Mann and Kyaw Swe – former Minister of Department of Home Affairs who got close to State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi during the NLD government from 2016 – 2020.
