Laiza camp, Kachin [07 Sept]: The shadow national unity government officially declares a national uprising against the military junta, popularly known by the public as D-Day. The announcement is delivered by the acting President Duwa Lashi La.
The Myanmar military led by senior General Min Aung Hlaing staged a coup on 1 February, accusing the NLD government of rigging the 2020 General Election involving millions of fraudulent votes. Millions of people took to the streets protesting against the military in a direct response and demanding the military respect the election result.
Subsequently, hundreds of thousands of civil servants joined the Civil Disobedient Movement, refusing to work under the military administration, promising to return to work only after the restoration of democracy and the return of the elected government.
The military responded with violence, brutally killing people on the streets, arbitrarily arresting peaceful protesters, and torturing many to death. So far, more than a thousand protesters, including children and women, have been killed, and more than 6257 have been unjustly detained, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).
Although the initial response from the public was a peaceful, non-violent protest, thousands of young people, also known as Generation Z, later turned to armed resistance, receiving military training from ethnic armed organizations across the country. Following the formation of the National Unity Government by the body of elected MPs, known as the CRPH, and other stakeholders across the country, the People’s Defense Force was established to protect civilians from military brutality. The PDFs have been formed in almost every town and city and have military training under the ethnic armed group.
NUG has declared a national revolt against the military junta, calling upon PDFs and EAOs (ethnic armed organizations) to attack the military’s administration, urging civil servants to leave their positions, and urging security forces under the military to join with the people.
“All the people who live in the Republic Union of Myanmar, on 1 February 2021, the military terrorist group led by Min Aung Hlaing staged a coup from the democratic government elected by the people and formed a military council.
Following the coup, the people have not passed a day with joy. It has been eight months since the military continuously and cruelly murdered, tortured, detained, and imprisoned using many laws. Now the entire world knows that the military is constantly committing inhumane war crimes by occupying public housings, religious buildings, hospitals, and schools, threatening, arresting, and killing people, ransacking and robbing private properties, and burning villages.
The people have now used various means of defense against military junta. Therefore, with the responsibility to protect the life and properties of the people, the National Unity Government declares;
Today, from 7 September 2021, 2 Tawthalin, we launched a people’s defensive war against the military junta. As this is a public revolution, all the citizens within Myanmar revolt against the rule of the military terrorists led by Min Aung Hlaing in every corner of the country.
People’s Defense Forces target and control the military junta and its assets in your respective areas. All the military-appointed administrators at different levels of administration, leave your positions;
All people’s Defense Force! Carefully protect the lives and properties of the people. Follow the instructions exactly (that comes from above). Precisely observe all the military codes and conducts prescribed by the People’s Defense Force.
People’s Defense Forces arrange to protect the safety of the lives and properties of the people in your respective villages and towns.
Citizens, avoid unnecessary traveling and mind your personal safety. Save necessary supplies and medications. Assist and protect the people’s defense forces and their allies. Report the movement of the military council to the PDFs.
All Ethnic Armed Organizations immediately attack the Min Aung Hlaing and the military council with different forms. Fully control your lands.
Attack and abolish the dictatorship and military administration with people power. At the same time, closely consult with the people and manage to change into civilian administration.
Border Guard Forces and the militias, being deceived by the junta, from now on, join with the people and attack the people’s enemy.
This revolution was necessary for building a peaceful country and establishing a federal union.
I believe that our neighboring countries, ASEAN Countries, United Nations, and all other countries worldwide understand that we do it out of necessity based on the country’s current situation.
As the people’s revolution begins, all the soldiers, the police forces, and civil servants who have been deceived and suppressed by Min Aung Hlaing, join with the People’s Defense Forces and immediately report to the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Home Affairs of the National Unity Government.
From today to all the civil servants under the military council, we warn and forbid you from going to the office.
We will acknowledge all those who sacrifice their lives and possessions in this revolution as the country’s heroes and heroines.
We have to initiate a nationwide uprising in every village, town, and city in the entire country at the same time. The revolution period will last shorter based on people’s unity, creativity, intelligence, passion, and persistence.
We will remove Min Aung Hlaing and dictatorship from Myanmar for good and establish a peaceful federal democratic union that fully safeguards equality and is long-aspired by all the citizens. Only then, the Union of Myanmar will again become a proud nation in the world”.
Our revolution shall triumph!
This announcement comes after much anticipation. Within an hour, people were rushing to go shopping and panic buying in fear of war across the country.
