Aung Zaw Oo (aka) Mohamed Phua Rut, a former political prisoner and pro-democracy activist, was confirmed killed yesterday as a result of the intense interrogation in Taungyi prison in the capital of Shan state in Myanmar.
Mr Aung Zaw Oo was arrested last year and handed 7 years sentence in jail by the junta military regime for his involvement in the pro-democracy movement.
He was sent to the hospital because two ribs were broken due to the brutal torture at Taunglaylung prison in Taungyi.
A funeral service was held today. Thousands of pro-democracy activists currently being held in junta prisons are subject to degrading treatment and cruel torture during intense interrogation as torture is used as a tool to oppress the opposition.
