All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF) has entered a war with Myanmar’s junta military

Yangon –  All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF) has decided to side with People Defense Force (PDF) and fight the military regime after being quiet for nearly a year over the return of military rule in Myanmar following the February 01 coup.

ABSDF is one of the members of the NCA (Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement) that was signed in 2013.

ABSDF, alongside the local People Defense Force, has carried out an attack against the two military ships approaching Katha Town from Shwegu at around 2:00 pm on January 15 2022.

ABSDF and the local civilian defense forces deployed 60mm heavy weapon and RPG (Rocket-propelled grenades), attacking the ships that carried new reinforcement in the attack.

According to Katha Revolution news outlet, the group believes many of the junta forces will be inflicted in the attack but not know many died. ABSDF and its allied forces did not have any casualties despite the junta army firing back two rounds of heavy artillery from the ships.

The group says they safely retreated.

The clash had occurred in Katha Township, Sagaing region. Chindwin has learned this is the first time ABSDF is involved in the attack against the junta army since the February coup.

Among NCA signatories, Karen National Union (KNU) and Chin National Front/Army (CNF/A) have sided with the people and have been at war with Myanmar’s junta army since the start of the February coup.
